Sedimentary Rock Types
Sedimentary Rocks belong to one of 3 different groups depending on how and they form and where.

Clastics - formed of weathered and eroded pieces of other rocks or of the minerals that were once part of other rocks.
Carbonates - rocks made from carbonate materials (calcite and dolomite) - essentially all are produced from the shells of living organsims ranging from algae to the bones of vertebrates.
Evaporites - formed from the precipitation of minerals in mineral rich waters - generally in inclosed basins.
