Formation of Sedimentary Rocks
Sedimentary rocks are formed by combinations of 3 processes:
Compaction
The squeezing together of grains with the removal of the water or other materials between them.
Cementation
The precipitation from intergrain fluids of minerals between grains so as to lock the grains together.
Evaporative Precipitation
The precipitation and crystalization of dissolved chemicals from a body of water as it evaporates.
