IRC Information
IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat and is a means of talking (typoing)
with one or more friends in real time. To use it you need a "Client" (an
IRC progam on your machine) and then you need to hook up to a server with
one of the many IRC Networks. The Dragonheart tribe's favorites are DALnet
where Dragoheart used to work as an IRC operator some of the time for the
Midijari and Liberty Servers and as the Coordinating SOP of the network
help channel #DALnethelp; and EFnet where Kiterith often hangsout.
DALnet is designed to be a user friendly network where you can get real
"ownership" of the nicknames you use and the channels you setup. Once you
have your client installed ( I suggest either mIRC, PIRCH, or VIRC for
Windows or IRCle for Macs) you choose a server and port. For your first
tries use irc.dal.net port 7000 (irc.dal.net:7000) this is actually a round
robin that will select one of the 30+ servers on the net for you - if you
don't get in the first time just keep trying *GRIN*. Once on come visit
with us in channels #DesertSprings, #Hawaiian_Weyr or #afd (type /join
#DesertSprings, /join #Hawaiian_Weyr or /join #afd). for help you can go
to#DALnethelp, or #MIRC. For more info check out the DALnet
Webpage, which has lots of info as well as connections to download
clients from. As IRC operator (IRCop) and Help Channel Coordinator Dragonheart
is around to help keep the network running smoothly and to answer questions
so feel free to ask if you see him.
