If you want to know more read my history below:
"I'm a Travelin' Man ... "
And
the travels started as soon as I did. Born in Boston (well Cambridge actually)
where things started off confused - I lived in one County and Mom and Dad
lived in a different county. I'm probably the only kid how ever had to
comute to get his diaper changed! A few years later (after I'ld learned
to walk, talk, and rule the snowhill) my sister showed up. Since there
wasn't a third county available for her our parents decided to consolidate
and put us all in one large county up in the hills outside of town. Real
trees and mountains to climb - I think I've been climbing in them ever
since! Of course Dad got tired of tracking me down all the time so we were
" On the Road Again" to Austin,TX for a few years. I had my first martial
arts training, learned to ride, to swim and dive, handle snakes, collect
and polish rocks, make rock gardens as well as all the other childhood
activities that little boys learn. Of course, this being the sixties, politics
raised its ugly head. So Dad headed off to Washington, with the rest of
us in tow, to do his part from inside and out. Didn't work of course -
politicians HATE practical, effective fact based solutions . Still D.C.
was fun, and I had the Space Program flying
high to keep things intertaining. (I still want to be an Astronaut when
I grow up!). Besides, there were all sorts of museums and Libraries to
exhaust while cutting school. (RIGHT! you try to exhaust the Smithsonian
and the Library of Congress). We also had the usual home chemistry sets
to play with as well as lapidary and Jewelry making equipment. Quite a
group of talented teenage terrorists we turned into for a while. Of course
we got interested in music, beer and girls (not neccessarily in that order).
Then off to college. I liked it so much I stayed an extra year then got
a BS in Geology from Adelphi U. with
a minor in photography (technical, portraits, dance and theater especially
(guess where the best girls were!). I couldn't even stay put on campus
5 dorms in 5 years (shesh!). International relations proved interesting
- try having a Persian roommate during the Iran Hostage Crisis on a campus
with ?half? the Isreali Junior Soccer Team in residence on campus as well.
Then off to Grad School at Florida State
U. and split the next few years between grad school and working in
the oil fields as a geologist. That got me out of roaming the USA and into
roaming the world: Jamaica in '82, and Singapore, Malaysia, Burma, Thailand,
Taiwan, and Japan in '84. Spent the next 9 years learning and teaching
in NYC during the weekdays, and hiking, camping and SCUBA diving during
the weekends and summers. Finally moved out to the Big Island in Hawaii
a couple of years ago. The Diving's great - year round summer weather,
fantastic scenery (and the trees, mountains, and lava flows aren't bad
looking either!) and new classroom challenges keep things hopping. Since
getting on the internet in late '94 I've moved around the Big Island doing
computer work, Drugtesting and adventure expidition guiding. In January
of '97 I moved to Flagstaff, AZ and Northern
Arizona University. In May of '98 I got a Masters in Science and Technology
Education. Next I moved on to San Jose, California and a job with the SETI
Institute writing a CD/Internet High School Curriculum on Evolution.
In July of 1999 I moved back to NYC and am now teaching science in the
high schools there during the week . On the weekends and summers I SCUBA,
hike, camp, whitewater raft, mineral collect and do outdoor photography
if I'm not online. Well that's my life so far - never a dull moment! If
you are interested in seeng some of my photographs and reading some of
my poetry (and Dragonheart's) take a look at our photogallery
. Otherwise see the DragonLogic Library for
the sites I work with or visit regularly.
