Storm Warning Thunder rumbles in the distance, the warning of a storm to come. Lightening flashes in the sky, and your heart beats like a drum. The winds howl through the trees, making a screaming sound, And the great black clouds above you gather all around. Rain falls fast and hard, slanting in the window sill, And then a gust of wind blows in, and gives you quite a chill. The fury of the storm shows you just some of nature's power, And it gets still more thrilling and frightening by the hour. The sky turns black as night, but is less comforting by far, For the moon doesn't shine overhead, nor will you see a star. The darkness is unending, broken only by the light That comes from bolts of lightning--hardly a soothing sight. The wind tears at your clothing, and the screaming chills your soul. You think the rain will never stop, that thunder will always roll. But suddenly, the sounds of the storm end, and all is still; And this creates a silence that you think nothing can fill. But a burst of light is the next thing that greets your eyes, And, looking at the clouds above, you get a great surprise. For, up in the still dark sky, a lovely rainbow shines-- With colors of the brilliant hues not found in any mines. Yet--you have a nagging thought: the storms will soon be back-- And then they will once more begin their frightening attack. ---Amanda M. Hayes
