WELCOME TO THE 39TH AFD POETRY READING * FConcolor was thinking he would just listen on this one. * Arianna grins I finally got here in time for once ;) * Callsfire applauds to start off lets review the policies we operate under (flood coming) * ScorchGD2 smiles AFD POETRY READING ANNOUNCEMENTS AND PROCEDURES * 1) All Poems are to be written by afders or imediate family/close friends. 2) If you have poems msg me the titles and author so we can keep things running smoothly and fairly - first reads will be given before repeats. 3) Greetings and general conversation should conducted either in #Kelekona - not in #AFD_Poetry. During the readings #AFD_Poetry will be set +mi and only the ops and reader will be able to talk - at the same time #Kelekona will be open for general conversation the break after round 1 will be held in #Kelekona only and the stage (#AFD_Poetry) should be quiet . 4) We will be running the reading in semi-moderated form from now on when a poet comes up moderation will go on - you willbe given a voice to read when you are introduced moderation will be turned off after the poem is complete so be sure to include an END to them - thanks. 5) We call the reader to the stage as a means of announcing when someone is about to read - when you see this happen please stop talking in channel ,and wait to be called up if its your turn to read. 6) If you are late please /msg Heatherica or OnyxDragon before entering - we will let you know when #AFD_Poetry is off invite only status (poem being read is finished). 7) We generally run for about 2 hours with 10 poems in 2 rounds. the rounds are seperated by a short stretch and munch period (G). 8) I am logging #AFD_Poetry so anyone who wants a copy let me know by msg. 9) I will also be putting out a post to the newsgroup about this weekly affair. It will include the poems from these readings - so if you have something you don't want in the post but would like to read here let me know - I'll pull it first 10) We will be meeting next Sunnday at 6:30 PM Pacific here in #AFD_Poetry for the 40th Reading. * ok our first poem is one of mine its called The Devil's Lake _________________________The Devil's Lake______________________ Down from the hills we came over flat and poisonous ground "on to the Lake" we cry, "It must be fresh!" Dreams come as we trudge on - a bath, a swim, fish, fresh food, Fresh Water! - all we can drink! We get to the lake and all run forth - except the beasts We start to drink - SALT!! - The water is bad - we cannot drink. "were Doomed" some say a man goes mad runs into the lake - only to fall - exhausted We start to help then stoop amazed! the very waters hold him up. What is theis place where water kills from thirst - but saves the drowning? Outside all that can be heard are the heaviest of rains, as the dragon's presence fills the room and magic courses my veins. Slowly I begin the chant, in foreign tongue like some mindless rant. Melodious words on the tip of my tongue, to become a great creature of fiery lung. I can feel a force rising deep within, to fill my soul with power and keep it in. A wave of energy encircles my soul, while around my body the winds of change encoil. Like a shiver up my spine it goes, then into my mouth and throat it flows. My skin into burnished scales is mold, as out from my back great leathern wings unfold. My fingers and toes become the sharpest claws, and armored scales lacking even the smallest flaws. A light in my soul so fiery and true, to shed this human form and become something new. And the time comes when the dragon that is I enters this realm, as the ethereal barrier do I finally overwhelm. My hopes and dreams are finally achieved, when apprehension and worries all are relieved. I spread my great wings to soar of in the sky, on warm morning winds as into the sunrise I fly. To soar across the land with the grace of a dove, as I gaze down upon forests from the sky high above. I glide over mountains on the back of the wind, to float down to the sea and gaze across ocens without end. When evening falls I make my way across moonlit night, to join fantastic creatures in a historic flight. THE OLD WAY When we flew peacefully over the countryside. Taking our due from the land. And man had not the madness within to still our flight. . We roamed free and wild...yet serenity filled us. The old ways rooted in our souls. The fields and glens our hunting grounds... we ate to fill our hungry bellys. . Our young flourished...grew strong. And we were many in number. Respected were we..revered. To live honor bound to the land. . Our hoards grew with the tithes of men. Our souls were free. Yet we had no vision of that which was to come. . Mayhem and murder, our kind were slaughtered. Men filled with loathing and greed. Wanting more...til at last.. we had no choice but to hide ourselves. . Becoming that which was almost forgotten. Knowledge that we once shared.. passing away with the time. A daily struggle just to live. . Tis only now that some believe. Bringing into existance that which had been put away. Never again will we be caught unaware. Pay no heed to the mithral gates That seal the entry. Other wonder waits, More wealth than any mighty Prince can display, Will pass before your greedy, human eyes today. . He saw the fountain of gold, The piles of bright gems, Mounds of silver, cold. Wealth enough to ransom a raft of Kings, A millennium's muster of bright priceless things. .
